The Mayyil Knightsbridge Brief
Mayyil's first site: an existing retail unit in Knightsbridge to be converted into a restaurant.
Mayyil Knightsbridge Project Overview
We converted a Knightsbridge retail unit into a working restaurant, from strip out to a finished space ready to open. The scope covered a commercial kitchen, joinery for counters, seating and display, full M&E, ventilation, extraction and air conditioning.
Mayyil came back to us two years later for their Notting Hill site, a £300,000 project.

Converting a Knightsbridge Shop Into a Restaurant
Turning retail into restaurant use is mainly a ventilation problem. Extraction for a commercial kitchen is significant, and in Knightsbridge the standards for noise, odour and compliance are strict, so the systems were designed and installed before the rest of the fit out could progress.
Ducting, air conditioning and extraction all compete for the ceiling void. Routing them without losing ceiling height or compromising the layout was settled at design stage.
It is a very small unit, so getting every trade to work together in that space took tight management on site.
The gas supply to the kitchen runs under the floor. We dug the floor up, laid the gas connections beneath it, then closed it and retiled.

The Finished Project at Mayyil Knightsbridge
The restaurant opened on time, matching the Mayyil brand in a tighter footprint than their later Notting Hill site.
Handed over in September 2022.
“Our first site, and our first time working with a contractor in London. They understood how a restaurant kitchen has to work, not just how it should look. That is why we went back to them for Notting Hill.”
