The St John's Wood Home Gym Brief
The client wanted an unused garage turned into a proper training space, usable all year round. Three priorities:
Dry
The garage was damp, and that had to be fixed before anything else went in.
Light
Bright, even light for training, built into the walls and ceiling rather than hanging from it.
Space
Every centimetre used, with storage that keeps the floor clear between sessions.
St John's Wood Home Gym Project Overview
A garage conversion in St John's Wood, turning a cold, damp, unused garage into a home gym. We damp proofed it, insulated and plastered the walls, then fitted gym grade flooring, LED lighting set into the walls and ceiling, and fitted storage for the equipment.

Turning a Damp Garage Into a Year Round Home Gym
The garage was damp, so nothing could start until it was dealt with. We damp proofed it first, then insulated and plastered the walls so the room works in winter as well as summer.
It is a very small space, which made getting trades in and working tricky. Each trade was programmed in turn so they were not working on top of each other.
The LEDs in the walls and ceiling meant every cable run and driver position had to be fixed before the plaster went on. The flooring had to give grip and absorb impact, and the lighting had to be bright without feeling industrial.

The Finished Project at St John's Wood Home Gym
A dry, warm and brightly lit gym in what used to be a damp garage, with storage built in and the floor kept clear. It feels like a room in the house, not a converted garage.
Handed over in May 2021.
“I wanted a proper gym, not a garage with weights in it, and that is what I got. I train in there every morning, summer and winter.”
